Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Lukáš Horníček, with the Sporting Braga goalkeeper now expected to complete a move to Tyneside in the coming days.

The 24-year-old was noticeably absent from Braga’s matchday squad for Thursday night’s UEFA Conference League qualifier against Železničar Pančevo. While Braga secured a comfortable 4-0 victory, Horníček’s omission has only fuelled reports that his transfer to Newcastle United is now entering its final stages.

According to multiple Portuguese media outlets, including O Jogo and A Bola, Horníček is set to travel to England to undergo his medical before signing his contract with the Magpies.

Newcastle Continue Summer Recruitment

The Czech goalkeeper is expected to add further competition in Newcastle’s goalkeeping department as the club continues to strengthen the squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

Although Newcastle United have yet to officially announce the deal, all indications suggest the transfer is now a matter of time, with only the final formalities remaining.

Horníček has impressed during his time with Braga and is regarded as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in Portugal. His arrival would fit Newcastle’s recent recruitment strategy of signing talented young players with the potential to develop into first-team regulars.
