Newcastle United supporters have been given an update on Lewis Hall after Thomas Tuchel revealed the defender suffered an injury scare while away with England.
Hall remained on the bench during England’s 3-2 defeat to Spain at Wembley, despite being included in the matchday squad.
Speaking after the game, Tuchel confirmed that the Newcastle left-back had missed training earlier in the week due to a fitness concern.
“Lewis missed some training sessions with a bit of an injury scare, so that’s why I was a bit hesitant to put him out there today, but he’s an option,” Tuchel explained.
The positive news for Newcastle is that Hall was able to return to training towards the end of the week.
Tuchel said the defender trained well but England decided there was little reason to take a risk in such a demanding game against Spain.
For Newcastle, that will hopefully mean Hall’s problem is nothing serious.
The 22-year-old has become an important part of the Magpies’ defence, and keeping him fit will be particularly important with the domestic schedule set to resume following the international break.
There was another encouraging message from Tuchel too.
The England manager confirmed that Hall remains firmly in his thinking at left-back, pointing out that the Newcastle man regularly plays naturally in that position for his club.
Hall remains with the England squad, so Newcastle supporters will now be watching closely to see whether he features in one of the remaining international fixtures.
For now, the decision to leave him out against Spain appears to have been precautionary — and Newcastle will be hoping he returns to Tyneside fully fit and ready to go.
