The setback against Leeds was frustrating. Nobody likes seeing Newcastle drop points, and as supporters we naturally want to see results straight away.
But I think we also need to look at the bigger picture.
We’ve got a new manager, a new coaching team, new players settling into the squad and, most importantly, a completely different style of football being introduced.
That doesn’t happen overnight.
Players who have spent years playing one way are now being asked to make different movements, press differently, move the ball differently and understand completely new roles within the team. There are going to be moments when it clicks and moments when it doesn’t.
Leeds was a setback, but it shouldn’t suddenly change how we view what Newcastle are trying to build.
There will probably be more difficult afternoons along the way. That’s football, especially when a club is going through a genuine transition.
What matters is that we start seeing progress as the weeks and months go by. The new signings need time to settle, the manager needs time on the training ground, and the players need competitive games to properly understand what is being asked of them.
As a supporter, I’m prepared to give them that time.
We’ve wanted Newcastle to build something exciting and sustainable for years. Now that another new chapter is beginning, we can’t expect the finished product after a handful of games.
Judge where we are further down the road.
For now, get behind the manager, get behind the new lads and get behind the shirt.
Keep the faith. This Newcastle side is still finding its feet.
