Newcastle United are back in Premier League action today as Bournemouth travel to St James’ Park for what promises to be another important test for the Magpies.
With the new season now gathering momentum, Newcastle will be looking to make home advantage count and give the St James’ Park crowd another performance to get behind.
Kick-off is scheduled for 12:30pm on Saturday, September 5, and there should be plenty of attention on the Newcastle starting XI as supporters wait to see whether some of the club’s new arrivals are handed opportunities.
Newcastle Looking to Build Momentum
Newcastle have plenty of reasons to no approach today’s game with confidence.
There have been significant changes around the squad, but the early signs have given supporters reasons for optimism.
A strong performance against Bournemouth would continue that momentum and, more importantly, put another valuable three points on the board.
At St James’ Park, Newcastle should be looking to take control of the game rather than allowing Bournemouth to settle.
The intensity of the press, speed of Newcastle’s attacking play and ability to win the midfield battle could all be crucial.
New Signings Give Newcastle More Options
One of the biggest talking points surrounding Newcastle has been the work completed in the transfer market.
The squad now has additional options, competition for places and the opportunity to approach games in different ways.
Supporters will naturally be watching closely to see which of the new arrivals are involved against Bournemouth.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo is one player who will attract plenty of attention following his move from Lille.
The 21-year-old gives Newcastle another exciting attacking option and his pace and direct approach could prove particularly useful against teams defending deep at St James’ Park.
Whether he starts or is introduced from the bench, Newcastle fans will be eager to get their first proper look at him.
Bournemouth Cannot Be Underestimated
Despite Newcastle being at home, this isn’t a fixture the Magpies can afford to take lightly.
Bournemouth have shown in recent seasons that they are capable of making games extremely uncomfortable for Premier League opposition.
Newcastle will need to move the ball quickly and avoid becoming frustrated if Bournemouth attempt to restrict space through the middle.
An early Newcastle goal could completely change the contest.
With the St James’ Park crowd behind them, putting Bournemouth under sustained pressure from the opening whistle could be the ideal approach.
St James’ Park Can Make the Difference
Home games remain hugely important for Newcastle United.
When St James’ Park is bouncing and Newcastle start aggressively, it can become one of the most difficult grounds in the Premier League for visiting teams.
Today’s 12:30pm kick-off gives supporters the chance to create that atmosphere from the first minute.
Newcastle need to feed off it.
Quick tackles, forward runs and early chances can get the crowd involved and make Bournemouth feel the pressure.
What Newcastle Need to Do
There are three areas that could decide today’s game.
Firstly, Newcastle need to start quickly. Allowing Bournemouth to settle into the match would make the afternoon considerably more difficult.
Secondly, the Magpies need to be clinical. Creating chances is one thing, but Newcastle must take them when they arrive.
Finally, concentration at the back will be vital. Bournemouth will still carry a threat on the counterattack, particularly if Newcastle commit numbers forward.
Get those elements right and Newcastle should have an excellent opportunity to take all three points.
Newcastle United vs Bournemouth Prediction
There is plenty of attacking quality available to Newcastle and home advantage should give the Magpies another significant boost.
Bournemouth are capable of causing problems, so this may not be straightforward, but Newcastle should be targeting a victory.
NUFC Daily prediction: Newcastle United 2-1 Bournemouth.
Three points at St James’ Park would be another positive step for Newcastle and keep the momentum building as the season starts to take shape.
Howay the lads! ⚫⚪
