Tottenham vs Newcastle United: Magpies Eye First Premier League Win in North London

Newcastle United travel to North London this evening as Matthias Jaissle’s side take on Tottenham Hotspur in their second Premier League game of the 2026/27 season.

The Magpies head into the 5:30pm kick-off looking for their first league victory after an encouraging 2-2 draw against Liverpool at St James’ Park on the opening weekend.

Newcastle led twice against Liverpool through Anthony Elanga and Joe Willock before a dramatic late penalty denied them all three points.

Nico González Could Make Newcastle Debut

One of the biggest talking points ahead of today’s game is the potential debut of Nico González.

The midfielder completed his £50million move from Manchester City this week and could be handed an immediate opportunity by Jaissle.

With Newcastle missing Joelinton through injury, González could provide some much-needed strength and control in the middle of the pitch.

Dan Burn and Tino Livramento are also unavailable, while William Osula is expected to miss out.

Newcastle Predicted XI vs Tottenham

A possible Newcastle starting XI:

Horníček

Dedić – Thiaw – Botman – Hall

González – Miley

Elanga – Wissa – Barnes

Woltemade

Jaissle has several attacking options available, with Jacob Ramsey, Sean Steur, Bazoumana Touré and Jacob Murphy also pushing for involvement.

Spurs Looking for a Response

Tottenham endured a disastrous start to their Premier League campaign, losing 3-0 away at Brentford.

They responded with a 5-1 Carabao Cup victory over Charlton in midweek, but Newcastle should arrive in North London believing there is an opportunity to cause Spurs serious problems.

Tottenham could hand new signing Omar Marmoush his debut, while Sávio is available after scoring against Charlton.

Former Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali could also line up against his old club.

Newcastle’s Excellent Record Against Spurs

Recent history should give Newcastle plenty of confidence.

The Magpies have won six of their last eight Premier League meetings with Tottenham and have won on three of their last four visits to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Newcastle won this fixture 2-1 last season and another victory today would give Jaissle a major early boost in his first Premier League campaign.

NUFC Daily Prediction

There are goals in both teams and this fixture rarely disappoints.

Newcastle looked dangerous going forward against Liverpool, while Spurs showed major defensive weaknesses in their defeat at Brentford.

If Newcastle can exploit Tottenham on the counter through the pace of Elanga and Barnes, there is every chance the Magpies can leave North London with all three points.

Prediction: Tottenham 1-2 Newcastle United
