Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Manchester City midfielder Nico González in a deal that could reach £50million.
According to Sky Sports News’ Keith Downie, the 24-year-old Spaniard is travelling to the North East today and is expected to undergo his Newcastle medical within the next 24 hours.
González reportedly said goodbye to his Manchester City teammates this morning before making the journey to Newcastle by car.
The deal is understood to be worth up to £50m including add-ons, with Newcastle now looking to complete the final stages of the transfer.
Should everything go to plan, González will become Matthias Jaissle’s second signing as Newcastle United manager.
The 6ft 2in midfielder would add another powerful option to Newcastle’s midfield as Jaissle continues reshaping his squad.
