Three Newcastle Debutants Start as Amar Dedić Gets the Nod Against Liverpool

Newcastle United have named an exciting starting XI for their opening competitive fixture, with Amar Dedić, Lukas Horníček and Sean Steur all handed their Magpies debuts.

New head coach Matthias Jaissle also takes charge of Newcastle for the first time at St James’ Park, beginning a new era on Tyneside with several of the club’s summer signings immediately involved.

Amar Dedić Goes Straight Into the Starting XI

Perhaps the biggest selection is Amar Dedić at right-back, just five days after completing his move from Benfica.

The 23-year-old only joined Newcastle on Tuesday but has immediately been trusted by Jaissle to start.

Dedić already knows the Newcastle boss from their time together at RB Salzburg, which could help him settle quickly into the new system.

Horníček and Steur Make Newcastle Debuts

Goalkeeper Lukas Horníček also makes his competitive Newcastle debut, while highly-rated midfielder Sean Steur gets an immediate opportunity in the starting XI.

It represents a significantly different Newcastle side following the departures of Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimarães and Sandro Tonali.

Jaissle now has the opportunity to begin shaping the team around the players brought in during Newcastle’s busy summer rebuild.

Wissa Set for No.10 Role

One of the most intriguing tactical decisions appears to be Yoane Wissa operating in the No.10 position, playing behind Will Osula, who leads the Newcastle attack.

Wissa’s pace and movement could give Liverpool problems between midfield and defence, while Osula provides a direct threat through the middle.

It will also give supporters an early indication of how Jaissle intends to set Newcastle up this season.

More Newcastle Debutants Could Follow

There could be even more first appearances before the afternoon is over.

Summer arrivals Aladji Bamba, Ewen Jaouen and Bazoumana Touré have all been named among the substitutes and could make their competitive Newcastle debuts from the bench.

With three debutants starting and three more waiting in reserve, this feels like the beginning of a genuinely new-look Newcastle United.

All eyes will now be on St James’ Park as the Matthias Jaissle era officially gets underway.
