Newcastle United have officially completed the signing of Amar Dedić from Benfica, adding another major piece to Matthias Jaissle’s squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international arrives at St James’ Park in a deal reported by Sky Sports to be worth £29.5 million.
Dedić has signed a five-year contract with Newcastle and will wear the No.37 shirt.
The deal completes a rapid move for the highly rated defender after Newcastle stepped up negotiations with Benfica.
Newcastle Strengthen at Right-Back
The signing addresses an important area of Newcastle’s squad.
Dedić is primarily a right-back but offers the versatility to operate in other defensive roles, giving Jaissle another option as he shapes his Newcastle side.
At 24, Dedić also fits the profile Newcastle have increasingly targeted: players who can immediately compete at Premier League level while still having significant room to develop.
His pace and willingness to get forward could make him particularly suited to the aggressive, front-footed football Newcastle are looking to play.
Dedić Reunited With Matthias Jaissle
There is also an important connection between Dedić and Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle.
The pair previously worked together at Red Bull Salzburg, meaning Jaissle already knows what the defender can offer.
That familiarity could help Dedić settle quickly into Newcastle’s system and the demands of English football.
Could Dedić Make His Newcastle Debut Against Liverpool?
Newcastle supporters may not have to wait long to see their latest signing.
Dedić could potentially be available for Newcastle’s upcoming clash with Liverpool on Sunday, depending on his integration into the squad and final preparations.
His arrival gives Jaissle another valuable defensive option ahead of what promises to be a demanding season.
Another Major Newcastle Signing
Dedić becomes Newcastle’s sixth senior signing of the summer, continuing what has been a significant rebuild at St James’ Park.
The £29.5m investment also demonstrates Newcastle’s determination to strengthen the squad with players capable of making an immediate impact.
For Dedić, completing his Newcastle move on his 24th birthday makes the occasion even more memorable.
A Smart Signing for Newcastle?
On paper, there is plenty for Newcastle supporters to like.
Dedić is entering what should be the prime years of his career, already has experience at a high level in European football and has previously worked under Newcastle’s manager.
The Premier League will represent another step up, but his athleticism and attacking qualities could make him an exciting addition to the Newcastle defence.
The focus now turns to how quickly Jaissle is prepared to introduce him.
Could we see Amar Dedić in black and white against Liverpool this weekend?
