Newcastle United are in advanced talks with Benfica over a £30 million move for Bosnia international right-back Amar Dedić, according to Sky Sports News.
The Magpies are hopeful of concluding negotiations as they continue to strengthen Matthias Jaissle’s squad ahead of the new season.
Newcastle Push for Dedić Deal
Sky Sports News reporter Keith Downie reports that discussions between Newcastle and Benfica are at an advanced stage, with a potential deal worth around £30m being discussed.
However, an agreement still needs to be finalised before Dedić can travel to Newcastle to undergo a medical.
The move would see the defender reunited with Matthias Jaissle, having previously played under the Newcastle head coach at RB Salzburg.
That existing relationship could prove significant, with Jaissle already knowing exactly what Dedić can offer his side.
Who Is Amar Dedić?
Dedić is a Bosnia and Herzegovina international who primarily operates at right-back and has built a reputation as an energetic, attack-minded defender.
Still only 23, he fits Newcastle’s recent strategy of recruiting players with both immediate first-team quality and the potential to improve further.
His ability to get forward could also suit Jaissle’s preferred style of football, with the Newcastle boss previously describing his approach as front-footed, aggressive and vertical.
Another Exciting Signing for Newcastle?
It’s another sign that Newcastle are continuing to reshape the squad under their new manager.
The fact Jaissle has already worked with Dedić should reduce some of the uncertainty that normally comes with a new signing. He knows the player, Dedić knows his system, and that could allow him to settle quickly at St James’ Park.
Nothing is officially completed yet, and Newcastle still need to reach the final agreement with Benfica.
But with talks now described as advanced, this is certainly one for Toon supporters to keep a very close eye on.
What do you think, Newcastle fans? Would Amar Dedić be a good £30m addition to Jaissle’s squad?
