Dan Burn Injury Update: Newcastle Defender Confirms Broken Hand Despite England Call-Up

Newcastle United defender Dan Burn has confirmed that he has suffered a broken bone in his hand — but insists the injury did not prevent him from playing for England during the recent international break.

Dan Burn Filling in at Left-Back Again

Burn has once again been called upon by Eddie Howe to cover at left-back, a position he has filled before despite it not being his natural role. Standing at 6’7”, the Blyth-born defender is far more comfortable playing as a centre-back, where his aerial dominance and positional awareness shine through.

However, with injuries and squad rotation forcing Howe’s hand, Burn has been asked to step out wide again. While his previous stints at left-back have drawn mixed reviews, his versatility continues to make him an important asset for the Magpies.

Broken Hand Confirmed After Nottingham Forest Win

Speaking after England’s 3-0 win over Wales, Burn revealed that he suffered a broken bone in his hand during Newcastle’s 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest last Sunday.

Despite the injury, Burn was still called up for international duty and trained with the England squad. The towering defender clarified that his absence from the Wales game was a tactical decision rather than one forced by injury.

“I broke a bone in my hand against Forest, but it’s nothing too serious,” Burn said. “It’s strapped up, and I’m fine to train and play. I just didn’t get the nod this time.”
